Growing Good

Our mission

Growing Good exists to make small-scale, local food businesses work — commercially, practically, and for the long term.

We believe a better food system doesn’t come from bigger brands, longer supply chains, or louder marketing. It comes from enabling growers and producers who already care deeply about how food is grown, who it serves, and the impact it has on people and planet — and giving them the tools they need to run strong, sustainable businesses.

When small-scale growing works, the benefits compound. Locally rooted food systems are better for soils and biodiversity, more resilient in the face of global shocks, and fairer for the people doing the work. They keep value in communities, reduce waste, shorten supply chains, and reconnect people with the seasons, the land, and their food.

But running a veg box scheme or local food business is hard. It’s complex, operationally demanding, and too often under-tooled. Many great growers work incredibly hard yet struggle to turn that effort into reliable profit.

That’s the problem we set out to solve.

Growing Good is purpose-built software for local food commerce. We help growers and producers sell more, waste less, and spend less time on admin — without forcing them into models that dilute their values or their relationship with customers. We believe profit and growth can be good things, when they’re in service of something better.

Our ambition is simple, but not small: to help make small-scale growing and local food retailing a viable, attractive way to make a living — and in doing so, play a meaningful role in reshaping our food system for the better.

Why this matters

Today’s food system creates real costs that rarely show up on the shelf price: degraded soils, biodiversity loss, polluted waterways, fragile global supply chains, ultra-processed diets, and producers squeezed to the brink.

Shorter, seasonal, local supply chains address many of these challenges at once — but only if the businesses within them can thrive.

By supporting profitable, resilient local food businesses, we can:

Improve environmental outcomes through organic and low-input growing

Strengthen food security and reduce exposure to global volatility

Keep economic value circulating locally

Reduce waste through more responsive, subscription-led models

Make good food more accessible, not more exclusive

Technology won’t fix the food system on its own — but the right tools, built with care and intent, can remove friction, unlock scale where it’s appropriate, and help good businesses succeed on their own terms.

Our founders

Growing Good was founded by three people with complementary experience across growing, software, and product — united by a shared belief that better systems are built patiently, thoughtfully, and with the people they serve.

George Bennett

Grower & Chief Product Officer

George is an organic grower, award-winning farm owner, and lean-process engineer, recognised by the Soil Association for his work in small-scale organic farming. He is an influential voice in the UK veg box and local food sector, with deep, lived experience of what it takes to grow, pack, sell, and deliver food week in, week out.

Before returning to the family farm, George spent 15 years in the software industry after completing an MEng in Manufacturing Engineering at Durham University. This rare combination — hands-on growing experience and rigorous process thinking — shapes Growing Good’s product at every level, ensuring the platform solves real operational problems, not theoretical ones.

Steven Sidhu

CEO & Co-founder

Originally from farming country in Lincolnshire, Steve’s career began in technology and digital businesses, including co-founding and scaling a private-equity-backed recruitment startup. Despite commercial success on paper, he was drawn toward work with clearer purpose.

In 2013, Steve launched an online home-delivery business for local growers and producers, gaining first-hand experience of the challenges facing veg box schemes and local food retail. While scaling that business in partnership with George, it became clear that suitable software simply didn’t exist — and Growing Good was born.

Steve leads the company with a focus on long-term sustainability: building a lean, disciplined business that delivers real value for users, while contributing to a food system his children — and all of ours — can be proud of.

Renee Thomassen

Chief Technology Officer

Renee brings over 15 years of experience in the tech industry, with deep expertise in building and leading high-performing engineering teams. Formerly Head of Technology at a leading Southeast agency, Renee has delivered digital solutions for top e-commerce brands and ambitious startups alike.

At Growing Good, Renee leads platform architecture and engineering with a sharp focus on reliability, scalability, and usability. Passionate about technology as a force for positive impact, Renee designs systems that remove complexity, empower users, and support sustainable growth — without unnecessary excess.

Looking ahead

We’re building Growing Good for the long term.

Our aim is not to dominate the food system, but to strengthen it — quietly, steadily, and responsibly. As our platform grows, so does our responsibility to use that influence well: to prioritise productivity over hype, value over volume, and outcomes over optics.

If we do our job properly, Growing Good will remain largely behind the scenes — helping local food businesses thrive, reclaim market share, and prove that a better way of feeding people is not only possible, but commercially viable.

That’s work worth doing.
